There are many ways to make a bed, but the staff at Groupe Germain hotels always relies on the following trusty method.
1. The Fitted Sheet
- Lay down the fitted sheet on the bed and stretch it out evenly under the mattress
Note: ALT hotels use flat sheets rather than fitted sheets for reasons related to the irons available in our laundry rooms. For home use, however, ALT Collection recommends fitted sheets in order to simplify customers’ lives.
2. The Flat Sheet
- Lay down the flat sheet so that only the stitching extends beyond the head of the bed. That means there should be around four inches of sheet at the foot of the bed. Slip this extra sheet carefully under the mattress at the foot of the bed, making 45-degree folds at each corner.
3. The Duvet Cover
- Stretch out the cover on the bed. Its opening should be at the foot of the bed.
4. The Duvet
- Make sure the label is at the foot of the bed. Take hold of a corner of the duvet and place it inside the matching corner of the cover at the head of the bed. Do the same with the other side. Carefully slide the cover all the way down the duvet. The end of the duvet at the foot of the bed should be completely inside the cover. Slip the end of the duvet into the flap on the inside of the cover, and then put the excess length under the mattress, but only at the foot of the bed. Let the cover hang over the sides. At the head of the bed, take hold of the flat sheet and cover together and fold them so as to leave enough space for two upright pillows, placed length-wise.
5. Pillows
- Put pillow covers on all the pillows.
- In the case of a queen-sized bed, use four pillows of the same size, either standard or queen. Put pillowcases on two pillows and place these at the head of the bed. Slip pillow shams (decorative pillowcases) onto the two other pillows. Place these in front of the first two.
- In the case of a king-sized bed, use two king-sized pillows and three standard pillows. Place king-sized pillowcases over the two king-sized pillows and put these at the head of the bed. Slip standard pillow shams (decorative pillowcases) on the three other pillows. Place these in front of the first two.
